Liam Payne Biography

Liam Payne was born on August 29, 1993, in Wolverhampton, England. His early interest in music and performing led him to compete on television talent competition The X Factor in 2008 and again in 2010. On his second try he attracted positive notice. Although he didn't win, the judges combined him with four other competitors to form the pop boy band One Direction, who became a global success.

 

Childhood and School Years

Liam James Payne was born on August 29, 1993, in Wolverhampton, a town located in England's West Midlands. His father, Geoff, works for the aerospace manufacturing corporation Goodrich; his mother, Karen, has worked as a nurse and a receptionist. Payne has two older sisters, Nicole and Ruth.
Payne attended St. Peter's Collegiate School in Wolverhampton. As a pre-teen, he was interested in both music and athletics. He was a member of the Wolverhampton & Bilston Athletics Club and trained as a runner. He also began acting and singing with a local theater performance group called Pink Productions at the age of 12. Following his graduation from St. Peter's, he enrolled in the City of Wolverhampton College to study music technology.

Competing on "The X Factor"

Payne auditioned for the television talent competition The X Factor in 2008 and performed well enough to become one of the final 24 competitors before he was eliminated. For the next two years, he continued to train as a vocalist. He auditioned for The X Factor again in 2010 and moved further up in the competition, winning praise for his renditions of songs like "Cry Me a River" and Oasis's "Stop Crying Your Heart Out."
Although Payne was eliminated as a solo artist before the show's final round, he became part of a newly formed group act when judges Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell combined him with his fellow competitors Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. Performing as One Direction, Payne and his new band-mates finished the competition in third place and received a contract with Cowell's music label.

One Direction

Payne has become very successful as a part of One Direction. Their first single, "What Makes You Beautiful," was released in September 2011 in the United Kingdom and became a No. 1 hit before achieving worldwide popularity. Their debut album, Up All Night (2011), was a chart-topping success, as was their second album, Take Me Home (2012).

Biography Niall Horan

 Niall Horan was born on September 13, 1993, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. During his school years, he showed talent for singing and performing. At the age of 16, he auditioned for the television show The X Factor and was accepted into the competition. Although he did not make the final rounds as a solo vocalist, he joined forces with four other contestants to form the successful boy band One Direction.

Niall's Childhood and School Years
Niall James Horan was born on September 13, 1993, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. His parents, Bobby and Maura Horan, divorced when he was five and he lived a few years between each homes, until he chose to live with his dad. Niall was a pupil at Coláiste Mhuire, a Christian Brothers School. Niall was into music from a young age, from about 5 or 6. He started playing the guitar when he was about twelve, and one year later he entered the school's talent show, singing The Script's 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'. He didn't win, but got a lot of local press and good comments. He also entered a small local competition, where he was singing Chris Brown's 'With You', this time he won the show.

Competing on "The X Factor"

In 2010, when he was 16 years old, Horan auditioned for the television talent competition The X Factor. He moved up through several rounds of preliminary auditions culminating in a performance for the program's judges, including Simon Cowell and guest judge Katy Perry, in Dublin. He sang a version of Ne-Yo's "So Sick" and was accepted into the official competition. Although he was eliminated as a solo contestant after the semifinals, the judges combined Horan with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik And Louis Tomlinson to form the boy band called One Direction.

Fame and One Direction

Although One Direction did not win the final round of The X Factor, the band immediately received a contract with Cowell's label Syco and recorded its first album, Up All Night, which became a best seller in the United Kingdom in 2011 and the United States in 2012.
Horan is the only One Direction member born outside England, and he is the second youngest member of the band. He claims to be inspired by classic swing music and by the vocalist Michael Bublé. He is known for his blonde good looks and boy-next-door appeal, and he has been romantically linked with the actresses Demi Lovato and Freya Mavor, despite denying both rumors.
